With Sochi in the rearview mirror, Staci’s sights have turned toward Pyeong Chang. Her annual travel and equipment budget is approximately $65,000. Although they are part of the U.S. team, Paralympic athletes face considerable costs, including special equipment, airfare, lodging, and food as well as travel for training and competing prior to the Games. In Staci’s case those costs increase incrementally because she must train and compete with a guide, whose expenses she is also responsible for.

Staci understands that the last few years have been economically stressful for both individuals and the business community. Yet she believes that in supporting her vision of competing in the 2018 Winter Paralympics in Pyeong Chang, South Korea, those who help will be supporting more that just one skier.

“I’m going to represent our country, state, community and my school. I plan to work very hard to do well and I think it will be beneficial for those who support my efforts to be part of what I achieve. I also think it will help any business that supports me because they will gain community goodwill by publicizing that support– and because I plan to represent them well.

“Equally important, by achieving the goal of going to the 2014 Games, being successful there, and now shooting for the 2018 Games I hope to bring greater awareness of the talents and potential of people with disabilities and of the Paralympics.
